Charging iPhone 3GS - USB safe?

Hi all,

Ignorance alert! Sorry for the dumb question... but... I just want to make sure. Is it safe to charge an iPhone 3GS with a USB cord suppied from an iPod? It's all I have here at work and would like to charge my iPhone up.
