Charging iPod

I have just found out that wall chargers are not supplied with the new iPods.

If I charge one via my computer as with the old ones does this make the disc spin which can cause ware on the iPod. Or is it quite safe to charge via a computer.

Also with windows, can you plug the iPod into any computer to charge do you have to format your iPod to the computer to use.

Yeah, I think it's kind of ridiculous that the new ones don't come with chargers. Dunno why.

The hard drive won't spin while charging. I'm pretty sure that it's "quite safe" otherwise Apple wouldn't really have that option. You can plug it into any computer (or at least, I can). I believe if you plug it into another computer than the one your music is on, it says something about how the iPod will copy over the library from the new computer, but just click "cancel" or "no" or whatever it says and it'll charge.

If you unmount the iPod as soon as you plug it in, it will charge while not using the HD.

I have never really wanted a wall charger, thought I would, but have never needed it.

I kind of like how Apple is allowing options without including them in the price of the product. Why not include FM tuner, FM tranmitter, HiFi headphones, etc.? Because not everyone wants or needs it, let each cunsumer decide how they want to spend their money on acessories. I like.

I am under the impression that if the iPod is formatted for a Mac...avoid plugging it into a PC for any reason, and visa-versa...is this so?

No. You can plug them into either.

I have a PC formatted iPod that I plug into Macs all the time, no major problems. But of course always back up.
