Let me preface this by saying that my IPhone and IPod Touch are syncing with my Mac perfectly. But yesterday when I connected my IPad, it wasn't appearing under Devices in ITunes. I thought that was odd so unplugged it and reinserted the cable several times but still nothing. Then I turned it off and on and still no luck. To cut a long story short, I tried a bunch of things but it still didn't show under Devices.

I then plugged it in via a plug in the wall and it displayed a message in the top right corner saying "Not Charging". Turns out that after leaving it for a long time it did actually charge but still displays that message. After charging it back to 100%, I tried connecting to my IMac again and it still isn't appearing in ITunes.

Any advice ?

I had a problem with a cable with my iPhone about a year back, did you try a different cable? (If you have access to one.)
I had to take it in for a replacement cable.

Tried a few cables. In every other respect it is functioning quite perfectly. I just looked in ITunes10 and found the last backup was made on August 29 - before ITunes 10. Not sure if that is significant or not.

Two things.

1. You can try to put the device in DFU mode, and try to restore it. However, you will lose all your data from August 29th threw today, as that was your last backup.

2. You can bring it to the Apple Store and let them deal with it.

I'd probably opt. for #2.

Sincerely,
Mel

That sucks, even with option 2, he'll lose all all that data since August 29th.

Let us know how it turns out, maybe they can back it up at the apple store somehow.
