This thing takes forever to charge! Is charge time to usage time proportional to the iPhone and because the battery is so big, it takes so long?

Make sure you're using the adapter that came with the iPad, a Genius at an Apple store told me you could use the charger for your iPhone but it would take much longer to charge.

I'm having to charge it through my iMac at the moment. I imported from the US so the adapter doesn't fit our power outlets with the standard duck head. Could have put my iPhone duck head on it if I knew where the bloody thing was!

Hopefully the new one I ordered off eBay will arrive on Monday and I'll be able to charge it a bit faster as it does take a long time when charging through the iMac.

It will take twice as long to charge if not using the special 10w charger or a 10w USB port. That's if it's off, it will take much longer than that if you're using it at the same time it's charging.

It's mainly the Amps that matter in charging.

The iPad 10W USB Power Adapter puts out 2.1A vs. 500mA from a standard USB port. Thus it has issues charging when in use and if asleep would normally take 4x longer from the USB port of a PC or most Macs.

Newer Macs can apply additional power to a USB port if needed (up to a total of 1A if I recall correctly) but still not the full amount required for faster charging.
