"Charging with this accessory is not supported by Apple Watch"

I bought an additional 2m charging cable for my work from Apple. When i try to charge my watch (Sports Gray 42 mm), i get message "Charging with this accessory is not supported by Apple Watch"

However, watch charges perfectly fine with the original cable that came with the watch. Anyone else seeing this?

I haven't tried the extra cable I purchased yet but I don't remember my cable being gray like it appears in your picture. You said you purchased it from Apple?

Yes. Purchased it from Apple. It's actually white (blame the iPhone camera for that pic).

I removed the plastic but still same results. Am taking the cable and watch to the store. Hoping it's only the defective cable. Don't want to give away my watch for repair

Cable would be my guess, since you said the other cable works fine. Hopefully they can even just swap you out on the spot.

What are you plugging the cable into? You've tried both cables with the same charger/USB port?

Update: I restarted the watch (pressing the crown and side button for 10 sec). Issue seems to be gone for now and watch seems to be charging.

If it's an official Apple cable it's more likely to do with what you're plugging it into. I have a USB extension cable I use to use with my Mac Mini which has a bigger part on the end with four USB connections on it and sometimes when I connected my official iPhone or iPad cable into it to sync them with iTunes on my Mac I would get the same message. If I connected them directly to a USB port on the Mac I didn't get that message.

This actually happened to me twice with my original cable that came with my wife's watch ( using the charger that came with watch also ) but it has worked fine ever since... It was very strange though! It happened the first 2 days but we were on a trip that weekend of release so she used my cable and then on the way home hers randomly started working as expected!

It only happened that once, and I wonder if the magnet wasn't fully connected to the watch at the time.

Anyone else find the Sport watch doesn't hold so tight to the magnet?

i got the same error while i was charging my brand new aw S2 nike+. i got the 'snake error' icon but after about 30 mins charging, it turned back to the bolt icon. i have never seen the charging error message as the accessory is not supported anymore. so far,i have charged 3 times since saturday night(10/29).

Happened (and again) to me till completely didn't work. Got new cable and started working only to sporadically again start showing this error.

Needless to say... not going to replace Apple Watch for now and more likely to move to non-Apple fitness watch for exercise if fails again. $30 charging cables are highway robbery.
