Although it is no longer the new hotness, I was wondering if anyone has been upgrading their 7.1 recently due to good deals out there?

Right now in the UK you can get a 6800 XT for £650. I bought one a year ago for almost double that and it's been great.

I also picked up some Mac Pro Wheels for £179. They're kind of useless, but a 74% discount makes for a fun novelty purchase.

I'm guessing its quiet here because people are just quietly getting on with work on their nice setups, but have you found any nice additions recently - or have you decided to hodl your 7.1 / wait for the 8.1?

I am watching for more RAM and a second W6800X. That’s about it for now.

The wheels to me always looked a bit ridiculous and I’d have the thing rolling off my desk. ;)

I wouldn't want wheels, its not a skateboard. I want it planted in one place where its not going to get bashed around or bump up and down on wheels.

This is fab! Out of interest, how quickly could you run out of PCI slots? Is the processor upgradable?

On the 7,1? Yes, processor can be upgraded to the W3275M 2.5ghz octacosa core as a maximum or I believe the W3175X 3.1ghz octacosa core which is not an official offered chip but apparently works (with ram limitations and others).

Edit: avoid the 3175X- https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/mac-pro-2019-upgrade-to-w-3175x-cpu-question.2237857/

PCI slots, the 7,1 has plenty of them.
