Cheap iPhone - Contract > Pay&Go - 02 Help/Advice

Hello,

I need some advice. I know someone who is selling iPhone 8GB 3G for £100 - thats about £200 cheaper, and they are brand new and factory sealed. The seller got 7 upgrades on contact but their business no longer requires them.

Now I've looked at the 02 website, they say that all I need is a 3G Pay-as-you-go Simplicity Card for £19.58 pcm which gives me 600min, 1200 texts with unlimited web access.

Now... how easy is it to make this work? Does it sound too good to be true?
Will I be able to jailbreak and activate the iPhone, since it is a contract and I want to use it as a pay as you go.

In all seriousness, o2 simplicity works perfectly. You'll only miss out on visual voicemail and on the £19.58 tariff you also get to choose a bolt on - go with web browsing and thats your 3g/edge usage taken care of too.

The simplicity tariff isn't pay-as-you-go, rather a 30 day rolling contract, so when the elusive iphone 4g or whatever they're going to call it inevitably surfaces, you can just give 30 days notice/upgrade and keep your number.

You can activate the handset without jailbreaking, but of course its down to personal preference if you want to jailbreak. It's really as easy as putting the sim in, activating via itunes. Settings for the internet will already be there.

You don't need to use any specific plan with the iPhone. O2 wants you too (more cash for them), but you don't have to. Just pick up a normal SIM and use whatever tariff you please. I've used the Text Anytime tariff with the 7.50/mo Mobile Web bolt on and loved it. Top up 10 pounds per month, get 300 free texts -- 7.50 of that goes towards paying for the data bolt-on, and the rest is left for calls. Works great.

And yes, you'll get full 3G speeds.

I got my SIM swapped out when I bought my PAYG 3G from o2, my number was transfered to the new SIM but it's not a simplicity. I get free wifi/3g for a year and obviously if you topup £10 you get 300 texts etc.

£100 sounds too good to be true though to be honest. If they are sealed boxes why doesn't the guy sell them at near full price? Just be carefull if you get one is all. But yeh, get me one too? I'll give you £150, keep the change.

You would be fine to use it as a "pay as you go" just get a web bolt on £7.50 a month (comes off your credit when you top up)

Also £100 does sound to good to be true but if thats the case want to get a fellow scot one

Could someone confirm what functions i would miss out on if i had a pay as you go or simpicity iphone instead of an iphone contract.

I do not use many minutes or texts but would use data, which is free for 12 months on payasyougo.
