I'm looking for a cable to connect new Mac Pro 2013 to a 30" screen (2560x1600) with DVI-I & DVI-D ports. The Apple cable is almost $100. It looks like many of the lower priced cables do not support such a resolution. Have you found cheaper alternatives that work ? Thanks.

I used this adapter to run a 3rd 1440p monitor off a single GPU. Titan/670 only come with two dual-link Devi and needed an adapter to run the 3rd.

Don't need it anymore since I have 2 GPUs.

Any chance the display has a Displayport connector? If so, you can use an inexpensive Mini Displayport to Displayport cable.

Neither does Apple's. The USB plug is just to power the adapter.

Actually the Apple adapter DOES pass USB to the hub/ports in the 30" monitors. I am running two of them. I you use a TB-FW800 adapter with an 800-400 adapter, it will happily light of the firewire ports as well (for example to run an original iSight camera).

Oops! Sorry, I forgot about that. Hell I forgot my 30 had ports on it. It hangs on a wall so I never think about them. I use the ports on the iMac that feeds it?

No need to spend more money than necessary, and I am worried that out of 479 customer reviews of the Apple cable, 220 are 1* (out of 5*): http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A/mini-displayport-to-dual-link-dvi-adapter

A work colleague has this adaptor and runs it from a spare iPhone charger.
Using it with a large LG monitor.
That keeps it stable, the power supplied from many USB ports is just not enough, so
don't go there !!

OR get the Dr Bott version ( name IIRC )
