Hi,

Are there any cheaper versions of the magsafe power supplies available? I mean from reputable companies like Belkin, or Griffin etc. The official Apple ones are quite expensive. But at the same time, I dont wanna buy something that is gonna be cheap and break (or melt) after a short period of time.

Thanks.

Apple has not allowed any third parties prduce any MagSafe power adapters yet. Albeit $80 is not all that cheap they are the cheapest first party adapters out there. I ordered several first party adapters for customers over the year that ranged from $120 - $180 dollars. Then you also consider how nice their charger is. Built in cable management the ability to swap the socket head for an extension cord or almost any foreign adapter via the world travel kit. Id say price is right on with what they offer compaired to almost all.

I guess so. I am off to Florida in 6 weeks so I am going to stop by the Apple store and pick up an extra one for my Macbook. They are about 25% cheaper in the US then they are here in the UK.

Thanks.

You might want to check with the store before you leave. They were having to order them when i was in the Millenia Store last (that is under-going renovations and about 1/2 the size of normal).

I was just thinking today I need another one for in this room... but yikes, $80 - i want a wireless Mighty Mouse first :D

Don't forget that if they have stock problems on the Macbook power supply, a MacbookPro power supply will work fine on a Macbook. It is an 85W supply instead of a 65W supply, which means it will work fine, and probably run a little cooler at the same time.

A power supply is one of the most important parts to keeping a computer running properly, ask almost any PC user/gamer. Why would you want to get a cheap 3rd party one to use on your high end Apple computer?

What is the store at the Florida Mall? I have been to the one at Millenia a couple of years ago when I was there.

You are saying the one at Millenia is renovating and only half of it is accessable? Shame there isn't an Apple store at the Outlet mall on the I4, we go there a couple of times while were there.

The Florida Mall is the mall right across from the Airport's North Exit, on 528. It's a huge store compared to the Millennia Store anyway (although Mall wise I prefer Millennia).

I'll be at the FL Mall Store tomorrow night - so I can ask the guys if they normally have Mag Safes in stock - what computer would it be for?

Millenia was closed for a week, and when they reopened they had taken 1/2 the store front to back and put up a false wall, and then on the sides. You can't tell what they are doing - and I don't think it's supposed to be done until April. They have a very limited stock IN the store, and have a vacant store front they fetch stuff down from when they call.

All in all, right now the Florida Mall store is a better bet!

Here is the website for the Florida Mall so you can see what else is there.

OH, the Outlets. They aren't in good shape either - the 2 Big Buildings at the Turnpike & I-4 were mostly leveled and they are being rebuilt. Going to be nice - they were bought by Prime Outlets. Lots of stores moved into the remaining building - but i'm not sure which ones.

Gee, I'm a drain on your shopping huh??? Anything else you want to ask? :D (i'm about an hour north from the Outlets).

I asked last night at the store - they *normally* have both kinds in stock. They did say to call - and they'd be willing to hold it under your name, especially if there seemed to have been " run" on them in the prior couple of days.

The enjoyed the iMovie class last night A LOT - they are a fun group of guys they have running them!!
