Playing with the options on the Mini and maxed out both the low-end version and the high-end version and it's cheaper to get the high-end version, but only by $25 though :p.

Well I couldn't attach an image for some reason but uploaded to PB instead.

Technically it's much cheaper to buy the low end Mac Mini and purchase the RAM and hard drive through aftermarket retailers.

I ended up buying the cheapest version and getting aftermarket upgrades as well. Almost went for the more expensive one due to the double amount of shared VRAM, but i figured that must be a software thing that someone will figure out...

Yeah its already been talked about in other forums. Apparently the software automatically increases your VRAM after a RAM upgrade.

Instead of getting the the high end Mini I am going to get the CTO 2.26GHz Mini and upgrade the RAM and HD myself. Seems like the smartest thing to do since the CPU is not upgradable.

opening it voids your warranty though, doesn't it? I'll pay apple's RAM premium if it's the only way to keep the warranty...

However if you do an aftermarket upgrade you can use a 7200rpm drive which will boost your overall performance

Only if you break something. If someone is not technically able to open the mini without breaking something then they should pay Apple so they don't void their warranty.

The MacBooks are better value, especially compared to the high-end mini.
The WhiteBook looks like a steal.

Bear in mind the base 2.0GHz processor is not fully featured - it doesn't have Intel VT-x for example. The 2.26GHz chip does, for what it's worth.
