Hello,

Could someone give me a suggestion for the cheapest graphics card that will run Final Cut Pro X? I don't care if it is new or used as long as I can acquire it fast. I ask for the cheapest because I do not want to invest much as I will not be using FCPX often.

I had an NVIDIA GTX 470 but it has died on me. Now, I'm using the OEM ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT until I can find a solution.

MacOS: 10.13.6
Computer: MacPro3,1

Thanks!

I have a 4/5,1 single 3.33MHz, with a GT120. It edits HD in FCPX just fine. A little slow in import/export, but it works OK. These things are pretty cheap in the aftermarket. As near as I can tell, this GPU does very little to accelerate FCPX. So anything better than this will work, too.

Thanks, that's good to know. It's funny that that card is still supported after all of these years.

here's a list from apple.

quite a few older cards on there, but they are missing recent nvidia releases.

Thanks! Yeah, I saw that page before you posted it but I was wondering to myself if there may be other options that aren't listed. For example, I was using an unsupported GTX 470 before it failed.

HD 5770 should be pretty cheap. It was stock with the Mac Pro (with HD 5870 as an upgrade option) on the mid-2010 gen 5,1.

I'd stick to the recommendations on that list AND the recommendations for GPU's compatible with Mojave. Someone mentioned on another forum that the FCPX update that will be released with Mojave will drop support for many older cards. Unsure if that is optimized support, or complete support.
