Instead of paying $20 at BB for an adaptor, does anyone know where I can buy it at a lower price? I checked monoprice, but couldn't find it.

Thanks.

I've never seen them cheaper than $19 because mini-dvi is an Apple only connection made by Apple with no knock-offs. I guess keep looking for a used one. :(

Wow, really? Well, I guess I'll stick with the one I bought today then. Thanks. :)

BTW, does anyone know why they decided to put a mini-dvi port instead of a regular dvi? Cheaper for them, I guess?

I always thought that it was for size constraints. Check this

That probably is the reason even though the mbp is extremely similar in thickness and they managed to fit a regular dvi port in there

Also, the iMacs don't have a size constraint whatsoever and they still put a mini dvi instead of regular dvi

My biggest beef about Apple's mini-dvi to dvi adapter is that the dvi end is DVI-D and does not carry the VGA signals. I cannot use a dvi-vga adapter plug to get a VGA signal.

This is a problem because while most monitors have dvi inputs, most projectors (usually olders ones found in educational institutions) only have vga. So it's either I sacrifice dvi's quality and use only vga or get both flavours of Apple's mini-dvi adapter... another cable to keep track of :/

You need to pick up a second apapter for that.....Mini-DVI to VGA ($19)

Every once in a while they'll be available cheap on Amazon Marketplace.
