Cheapest way to upgrade without a eligible upgrade

My 8GB 3G's Screen shattered so i went to AT&T and they are replacing the phone for free since it was under a year old but i was wanting to upgrade to a White 16 or 32GB 3GS because 1) I really want to record video 2) I NEED more space for music really bad...

well i have to wait till may 2010 before i can get a discount....

I want to upgrade sooner like lets say in October or November....

i don't want to pay 499...

is there a cheaper alternative??
if i renew my contract will i get a discount?

I don't think there's a place you can get a cheap 3gs other than finding somebody that could let you use their upgrade or adding a new line. Try craigslist, the cheapest I've seen them is $400 but they're rare to come acrros at that price.

AT&T implemented stranger than usual pricing for the iPhones.

If you're upgrade eligible you get it at the 199 and 299 prices

If you're not upgrade eligible and sign for 2 years you can get it at 399 and 499.

If you don't sign a contract it's even more...

Honestly, I would just bite the bullet if you want/need a new one that bad... pay the 399/499 price and get one brand new from the store... you'll be paying about the same from ebay (though you wont be signing a new contract).

i need to buy one for my gf for xmas id prefer not renewing the contract. cant seem to find anything below $600 id have no problem paying $400 for a new 16gb white 3gs but damn to hell i cant find any!
