Wow! That's so cool! How could they know that back then? This is probably a different product but still that's amazing. It's cool to look back and see how far Apple and Mac Rumors have come!

The Apple tablet rumors began 17 hours after Jobs killed the Newton on 27 February 1998. :D

No one knew. As it has been said, once Newton took a dump it was speculation from there on out. We watched Dell, Sony, Palm etc get into the handheld market. Then we watched HP, IBM, Fujitsu, etc get into the tablet market. It was only a matter of time before Apple saw a way to jump in and with that they likely thought that people love their goddamn iPhones and iPod Touchs, let's see just how much.

"will not truly compete even with palm because what it is, is a sub $1000 iBook without the features that would make it a full laptop"

"This PDA thing was a great idea but I think it has died."

It's not necessarily the hardware, it's the software and integration.

Whoa. That makes me want to not waste another minute on forums! Some people have been here for the last nine years toiling about an Apple Tablet....and for what, this "ithing" they announced the other day?...what a monumental waste of time!!
