Check Playback Status Without Pausing?

When watching a movie, how do you check the status bar (to see how much time is left in the show)? I pause it to look, then start it again.

Is that really the only way (other than FF/RW'ing)?

If so, please consider this a minor annoyance gripe.

I think this is the only way...you run out of buttons on the remote!
