Tonight I pulled my "new" 2012 MBP apart & gave it a good clean.
Took the logic board out, heatsink off, brushed & blew out the logic board.
Cleaned the old themal paste & reapplied new paste.
I used the ArctiClean 1 & 2, & Arctic Silver 5.
On the GPU I put a single blob in the centre, & the CPU I put a line down the centre (Ive watched quite a few vids & seen this done).
I didnt spread the paste out as I figured it would spread as I reattached the heatsink.
Apart from having a mild panic attack when I turned it back on & firstly got no power at all - had to re-seat power connector to logic board,
then got the "3 beeps" - tried multiple ram configurations until I got both working, it's all working again
So my question is how to I "make sure" the themal paste has been applied properly? Are there any good stress tests to make check temps/over heating?
I do have to say that there were no issues with temps/heating before. I just decided to do it as it was really dirty inside & it's an 8yo laptop.
Cheers
