Sounds impressive. You will probably need a dongle, since you don't have the UWB technology built into your computer. UWB is sort of very loosely a replacement to Bluetooth and USB at the same time.

It would be really great if something like this connected to ethernet or WiFi so that it could be placed off with a router and you could plug everything into it. It would be like the AEBS losing the limitation on what kinds of USB devices it can support!

Matt wants this. Matt has no need for it, as Matt only uses a USB mouse when needed. Yet Matt still wants it. Matt also has no idea why he is using simple setences. Oh, and he has no idea why he is refering to himself in third person.

Mohan agrees with Matt. As much as Mohan abhors USB, Mohan has sudden impulse to connect many USB devices to unnecessary hub. Mohan cannot be stopped. Fear Mohan. Mohan does.

Think about this You could hook up 4 usb hard drives to it and just use the dongle in the computer that you are currently using to stream your media. I use a few different computers throughout the day. It could be completely independent of your network. No neighbors/mpaa sniffing through you media collection via wifi. It says that you can stream hd in real time with this, so it would be great for xvid stuff. This might be a better solution than the raid 5 network box I wanted to build.

Matt agrees with Mohan. Matt thinks that all devices should run off firewire cables. Matt also thinks that firewire cables should come down in cost. All Hail firewire.

Hmm... Mr. Hankey thinks this would be nice to have for an EyeTV hybrid (or any other TV antenna/capture device). Then Mr. Hankey could use his PowerBook as a TV from anywhere in the house and not have to be connected to that giant antenna. Mr. Hankey likes. Mr. Hankey wants.

Great thinking Mr. Hankey, I hate carrying around my 12" antenna with my powerbook when I move from the desk to the bed. Thats it, I'm getting one now. Screw the mouse/keyboard uses. Hook up hard drives, thumb drive, and eyetv, and charge my ipod without having to turn on a computer.

I'm thinking along the same lines, I currently have a USB external soundcard, an external HD (with the need of another one to follow), sometimes a USB laser mouse, an iPod connection I like to keep plugged in and my digital camera. However, until apple implemented this technology into their notebook line, I doubt I'd pay that money purely because I'd hate to have some stupid dongle sticking out the side of my MacBook.

Apple should employ this technology with their next major release, it would definitely be cool having a couple of hard-drives hidden away somewhere that you could access from anywhere. I personally hate externals because they are noisey and make my MacBook sound similar to your average Dell Inspiron.

After reading the article, I am really disapointed that it required a direct line of sight 6 feet away to get a 60% connection. At 800/kbs with that limited range, we are all better off with wifi for now. It would be nice, if it worked the way I dreamed. And not mac compatable. Is this possible for a usb device?
