Checking corruption in Quark8 files

Hi,
the wife has spent a day or 2 on the "tidying up" bits of a job... the last pedantic changes to commas, words, spelling, etc.

But now the Quark file won't turn this file into a PDF!

Blaaargh! At some stage over the last day or so the computer must have crashed. Any ideas on how to check for file corruption as we go? Any automated checks on files that would report any corruption as they occur? Anything? Bueler? Bueler?

First, and in future, it is essential when working on long documents in Quark that you have the Auto Backup feature turned on to avoid any problems with corruption. Preferences>Open and Save>Auto Backup

Secondly, stop working on the file, save it and then duplicate it. Do your trouble-shooting on the duplicate.

Thirdly, what do you mean when you say it it won't turn it into a PDF? How are you producing your file? What happens to it during that process?

Fourth, you could invest in a flightchecking piece of software like Markzware but that's not going to help you now. There's no reason to assume the file is corrupted; it's more likely there's something in the way that it is constructed that is causing problems. It depends on the PDF settings, it could be a font problem for instance.

Fifth, do you have Acrobat Pro and Distiller? It's still the most reliable way of getting a proper PDF out of QuarkXpress.

Thanks for that, it turns out it was 8 corrupted Photoshop images in the Quark file. She stayed up late working on it after hosting our boy's birthday party —*she's a trooper.
