So I just looked at my credit card statement with my ibook purchase, and it seems I was only charged 949.05, even though I upgraded to 80g hard drive. So now my question is: did I get the upgrade for free, or did they send me a stock book? How can I check and make sure? I know this is a pretty basic question, but I'm new, and I didn't have any luck finding an answer in help or by searching forums. Thanks.

If you just got the iBook, the quickest way to check if you got the 80GB drive is to open a new Finder window and, assuming you haven't installed massive amounts of data onto it already, it should show just over 70GB free down the bottom of the window.
Otherwise, have a browse through About This Mac from the Apple menu in the top left hand corner, click on More Info and then you're in the System Profiler. Under ATA it'll have your optical drive and your hard drive, clicking on the HD one (try both if you don't know which is which) will show Capacity: 74.53GB or something like this.

Thanks for the quick replies! Apparently my HD capacity is 74.41GB. Does this equal 80GB minus the space OSX requires? In any case, it's certainly not the standard 30! So this means that unless I'm missing something, apple gave me an 80GB hard drive upgrade for free!?!

The missing gigabytes are a mixture of two things:
1. OSX obviously takes up a little bit of space.
2. The definition of a gigabyte changes as to whether it is purely metric (manufacturer's definitions) or the more historical definition which isn't metric (Apple's OSX definition).
