Are there any chess apps that would allow me to play against someone over a wifi router while at the same location? I thought maybe versus chess would work, but I don't know if you can play over wifi, or if it just picks an opponent arbitrarily over their network.

Does anyone know if any of the chess apps are multiplayer over a wifi network? I know the versus chess is multiplayer, but can you play someone you know right next to you, or do you get matched with some random person on their server?

One of the screenshots in iTunes for Versus Chess is a players list where you get to challenge a specific player.

Knowing this is NetChess from the jailbreak, you have a choice between random opponent or by choosing one from the list.

So yes, you can play with someone over Wi-Fi.

Versus Chess

Versus Chess plays perfectly over my wireless as well as 3G and Edge. Great app I highly reccomend it.
