Hi

Our kids where using out ipads and started venturing out of their ios children games and as we discovered apps missing or moved all over the place we added a password with out realizing they would lock us out by trying to guess the code., now we are locked out, we know the password and all we have is a message saying connect to itunes on a computer to unlock the ipad, we did this but then got another message saying to allow the device to be used with this computer by unlocking the ipad but we cant, its locked up.

We then tried the restore mode but as we are on 3G the download and restore failed 9 times, its getting frustrating because we know the password yet have to do all this to access an ipad that never even left ur home and 3G mifi wifi network.

Please advise on a solution.

If you have a current backup of the content, you can try this:

Make sure that you’re running the latest version of iTunes. Then, put your device in DFU mode and connect it to your computer/iTunes. It will download the latest iOS and install it for you. Good luck.

Sad how slow Apple is about everything

You might want to look into a built-in feature of iOS called Guided Access. It lives under Settings > General < Accessibility, and it allows you to confine the kids to a single app so they can't get out and change settings while the device is out of your hands. You can even disable certain buttons and controls within the app that they are confined in. Just be sure you pick a really strong, unusual pass code so they can't get out. Since your kids sound determined, you might also want to not let them see how you bring up the passcode screen to get out (a triple click on the home button).
