I just built the last CVS update for Chimera before the 0.2 release. I just thought I'd give you some info and a screenshot. First of all is the name has been changed to Navigator. It has a sexier interface now, is extremely quick, but still crash prone and full of HTML problems. This is due I'm sure to the fact that the code is still mostly .13 code and he hasnt checked in with new code in a while. Hopefully we'll see it soon.

sweet. nice to see a sneak peek. not a fan of the name, its going to get mixed up with netscaoe now since netscape's old name was netscape navigator.

keep in mind though that your own builds will not include many of the features that the actual browser will since the chimera folks have access to code that you do not. they have pointed this out in the newsletter a few times but havent given many specifics. i gues sthe big thing the mentioned is if you build your own you wont have the antialiasing that the official build will.

since its been so long since an update (about a month) its nice to see that considerable progress has been made. The .2 release will be a big update I guess. looking good.

yeah he stopped updating to the CVS repository. I really dont understand why they would do this, as nothing but good things can come from updating. People could see whats coming, and also they could find and notify of bugs.

Lookin' good! So does it contain support for Flash? I couldn't find any ref to that on the website.

im not sure if i read this on the website or in the newsletter but he said that the were holding version .2 for two things, plugins (flash) and antialiasing. So i believe whe .2 is released we should have flash.

let me see if i can find that quote...
We are holding Chimera 0.2 for Quartz rendering and plugins. After all, a browser just isn't a browser until you can view the Star Wars Episode II Trailer in all its glory inside your window (and have it surrounded by pretty antialiased text at the same time). :)

right from the front page of the website.

I read that too, but the StarWars trailer is quicktime, not flash. Not that it really matters, though. Once they get around to ver 1.0, it will most likely handle all standard plugins. I was just thinking of playing around with .2 and see what it could do.

hey sparkleytone you think you could offer us your chimera/naviagtor build on your iDisk or something? i have yet to learn how to make my own builds, but would really appreciate if you could help us less code inclined folks get a sneak peek :) pleeeeease?

Huh? They changed the name? So it's just Netscape now, not Netscape Navigator? Hmmm, just goes to show which browser I don't use! :)

You're right. It's not a good move calling it Navigator.

if someone can tell me how to make a dmg file from an app then id be happy to do so.

ok ive never done this but i just tried and here is what seems to work.

open disk copy

go to "new blank image" in "image" on the menubar (or apple-N)

it will ask you for name, location, size, etc

specify all the size location stuff and create

you can now click and drag your app into the mounted image.

after that you can use disk copy to convert the image into a read only or a compressed image or anything or just give it to us like that.

great! thanks a lot. always fun to get a peek at the future. wow. i just had three web browser open, mozilla (my normal browser) omniweb (cuz i found it couldnt view my webaite and i was going back and forth between dreamweavermx and omni until i got it right) and navigator because you just gave it to me and i wanted to see it. whoooo.

navigator is very nice, and its good to see they have started work on the preferences and seem to be working on the most important things first. now if it would just bookmark webpages it would be a functional browser.

thanks so much for the look. you rule sparkleytone!

Chimera is looking good

Sparkleytone, thanks for sharing the build with us. I use three browsers too - IE ( which renders most of the websites correcly ), Mozilla and Chimera ( i really like the Tabs, you can open many pages and switch very quickly ). I am not really a fan of OW though, it doesnt render some sites properly. I am really looking forward to making Chimera/Navigator my primary browser.

no prob peoples :) i am always up for sharing stuff unless it has to do with getting root acess ;)

i am a sucker for new learning experiences and since i didnt know how to make a dmg, i learned to today. anyways i think progress is being well made on chimera/nav, i just really wish for an interim build in the meantime.

Navigator is the way to go, i guess

Sparkleytone, thanks once again for posting that link. I just downloaded it, looks like this is similar to your build. I use to check daily in their site for updates. I cant wait to make it my primary browser.

ok. ive provided two links on my website to places where you can download the chimera 0.2 preview. one is hosted on my site and one on sparkleytone's idisk.

so have at it folks.

and dont forget to check mozdev.org for info on what is and isnt in this build.
