I think we are coming to the end of the smartphone wars just like we eventually came to the end of the PC wars in the 1990's. It looks like Apple and Samsung will emerge as the winners.

I understand that there are other brands that sell well in China and India (huge markets) but I believe they sell for very low margins.

They are going to "sell" to the Chinese government. Not good for anyone except, of course, the CCP.

I really like Huawei (Honor) phones, especially the recent ones. They have great build quality, and the performance of eMUI was great. The effect of the ban is obvious. I'm not sure if Huawei reacted prematurely though, since Biden is now in office.

4 days ago and According to the agency (Reuters), Chinese firm Huawei Technologies Co Ltd is in early-stage talks to sell its premium smartphone brands P and Mate, said two people with direct knowledge of the subject, a decision that could eventually allow the company to exit the high-end smartphone. The Chinese revolution is underway, it is well confirmed!

You've just repeated what is in the very 1st post in this thread.

not good for the tech world given how good their hardware has shown over the years.

I have my doubts about this but it will be interesting to see if it pans out.

The road to being the master of ones own destiny is a painful one, I think Huawei are in it for the long haul though as they still have a stronghold in China.

Breaking away from Google and having to rebuild and do a lot of stuff on their own may be a huge benefit for them in 3-5 years time.

I am pretty surprised by the number of people I see using newer Huawei devices when I do go out. I do expect them to see major plunges in numbers while they build out their ecosystem but ultimately it would be great to have another company like Apple that controls it’s own Software and Hardware, without having to wait or deal with the rules and limits of another.
