Thoughts?

Samsung? Yuck.
BlackBerry? Yuck.

If you're looking for Android phones, there are many others cheaper & as powerful as the S5, but without the incessant layers of bloat that slow them down. BlackBerry are practically a dead company and should be avoided, whether they're running Android or an in-house OS.

From what I've read the S5 has a great screen, water resist, removable battery.

The BB has strong internals, additional security in some BB OS mods to android, good keyboard 'mechanics' and the BB Hub, which is nice.

I suppose SideSync brings something Hub-like to the table but I've never used it.

What other phones are you thinking of?

Couldn't I just flash the S5?

The S5 has plenty of decent rom support now, and I'd certainly be flashing something like cyanogenmod on the S5.

Is the alacatel idol (which the BB is based) not cheaper than the BB ?

Yeah I would go Note 4 over either two of these also.

I'll check out the Note 4.

How is the overall size compared to a 6 PLUS?

After a while I just got tired of the larger phone. But I know that the Apple design is excessively large, big bezels and all that, considering the screen size.

Is the Note 4 more like a 6 in overall size?

Use Phone Arena's size comparison tool. iPhone 6 4.7" and Galaxy S5 5.1" are comparable in size vs iPhone 6 Plus 5.5".

Thanks. I did use it earlier. So the Note 4 is smaller than the Plus yet with a larger screen, that's cool.

But noticeably larger than the S5.

Still leaning toward the smaller phone
Yeah I went smaller this year myself going from my 6S+ down to a 6S & SE and from my Android phablets down to a S7 and HTC 10. The HTC 10 actually feels massive after using my iPhone's.

It's hard to find a size that you find suits your needs but thankfully there is plenty of choice so you should be able to find something that fits :)

Regarding software between the two, the BB is a lot more stock like than the S5. Future update wise there is probably more likelihood to see the BB updated to Nougat than the S5 at this stage.
