I'm on AT&T. In settings there either is now or always has been an option to choose Carrier? Maybe I'm tired this morning and never noticed this before?

Has this setting always been there?

According to this, that option is only available when "you’re outside of your carrier’s network and other local carrier networks are available."

Mine doesnt show that (AT&T iPhone 4). Interesting.

Mine doesn't show it either.

Whew! I thought I was going crazy there for a second. I've tried turning it off and it doesn't do anything accept search for a network.

It's strange because I haven't traveled since February and that was only to another state but don't remember seeing this back then either. Other than to and from work (local) and shoping (local) I haven't traveled to far from home.

Yes I'm a home body ;)

This always shows for me. Usually it just says "Rogers" is selected, but sometimes I think it says "Fido" under the options as well, which is owned by Rogers.

I don't have it but looking at the OP's pic I don't see a chose given. The pics just show AT&T. Does it display other carriers to choose from?

I do have that option. Turning Automatic off lists both my current network (Telecom) and a competing one that I don't have a SIM for (Vodafone). I do not see the local CDMA network listed.

Funny how it's hidden for some. I remember seeing that way back to the original iPhone days.

I don't think people with locked AT&T iPhones see it. AT&T hide the Carrier menu since it's locked and you can't use any other SIM in the US. If you travel, the menu becomes active so you can choose your roaming carrier.

Other countries see this because carrier's don't lock this menu outside the US (most).

My AT&T iPhone is carrier locked.
