I can get a 2017 base iMac Pro refurbished for about £400 more than a new 2019 i9 iMac with 32 GB ram, 1 TB SSD, and Vega 48.
I work with Photoshop and FCPX but not professionally, and I currently have a 2008 Mac Pro that still runs great so I am not in a hurry.
Is it worth the price difference for the benefits of the iMP or is the 2019 model a better choice over a 2017 model?
If I wait for an iMP update, the refurbished prices for them will not be available for a while, and if the price difference is too great, it's not worth it to me to go for the more expensive option.
I'm just worried about the wisdom of buying into 2017 hardware in late 2019.

I had a similar decision to make. I'm a professional photographer, so my usage case is mostly Lightroom and Photoshop...not much video work. I went with an iMac Pro and upgraded the RAM to 64GB; just got the computer this week. No regrets whatsoever. The machine is super quiet, and I love the 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports. Compared to my 2013 Mac Pro this computer is noticeably faster at my computing tasks.
