Gurus, simple question time!

When saving a document, you get a drop down list of locations (Documents, Pictures, Dropbox etc).

Is it possible to browse to a specific folder and save there (Dropbox/Holidays/2014 for example), or do you have to choose one from the drop down list and then go into Finder and move it into the folder you want it stored in?

Cheers.

Not sure which app you are talking about but it can be that the first selection of the dropdown gives you a set of recent locations, selecting it for the second time lets you choose anywhere.

Ah, that makes sense.

I logged my wife onto my MBP to give her a tour as she's thinking of ditching her Windows laptop.

She was just trying to do things (such as create and save a document is a specific folder), as she would in her Windows laptop, but didn't get the option, other than the defaults in the sidebar.

I'll log in as her, do the same again and see if I'm offered the option to save it where I want to.

Ok, so I just tried again and same problem, only locations in Sidebar to choose from, no way of double clicking for example into Documents and choosing another folder.

Actually, I think I may have cracked it!

Being that this is a new profile I created for her to give her a guided tour of Mac OS, there are no further deep rooted folders, so that would account for it?

Click the arrow pointing down right next to the Save As field. You'll be amazed. ;) Why the extended view is not the default I don't get, as you almost always need it.

Another option: Drag a folder from Finder into the Save As-window. The save location will be updated to that folder.

Spot on, thank you.

She was indeed so impressed with using my MBP, that I'll be ordering her one this evening! :D

Thank you.
