Hi,

I have a new small business and am trying to decide if the mini is the best way to go for a file server / apache and mysql server. Currently, one of our employees iMacs is acting as the server, but I'd like to get it on to a computer of it's own. It seems like the mini is popular for this and makes sense.

We primarily use the server just as a file hub. It also acts as an internal apache server and database for our inventory system. Only 3-5 people are accessing it, and it won't be serving anything up outside of our network.

Would the 2012 quad core Mac Minis be a better fit here, or for the things we need do the extra cores not really matter? Is there a better solution than a Mac Mini?

Keeping in mind I know very little about non-Windows servers, have you considered a Linux server?

Easily a better deal for your money and vastly more configurable.
