is there a way to choose which apps can use the slide over/split view function?

I'm already seeing the problem that can be scrolling through dozens of apps in able to choose the one you want to use

I'd like to see this feature too. I don't have so many apps installed but there are a bunch I know I'd not want to access via slide over and scrolling around these to will frustrate.

A second related point here, I don't know how split view determines the order of apps i.e. last used is default, but often I find that slide over delivers 1Password for me and the first thing it does is give me a fingerprint pop up which I have to dismiss before I can scroll through apps. I think this is a general implementation problem rather than being a fault with 1PW

I absolutely agree that Apple has to come up with a better solution which apps you want to see in Slide over/Split view.
See also my response in this 'What are the little things you hate about iOS9' topic.

Slide Over in general is ok but it lacks:
1) open the app that you have open in slide over to change to main app (full screen)
2) search bar
3) deselect apps that you don't want to show in the list of apps that support Slide Over

To see an overview with apps that support this slide over/split view/PiP check this topic.
