Bummer!

Why is it so difficult to fix this en why is no one else seeing this. Is it such an isolated problem that affects so little people? No youtuber or tech site that tested an iPhone xs(max) which has these problems?

I don't have this issue with video playback. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just talked to a guy that works for apple engineering team said Tim Cook ive and Phil was at Foxconn and there gonna have to recall like 7 million devices due to a manufacturing defect 7 million phones they left out a chip on the new phones the power management chip and they left it out so that does explain all the issues people aren’t having down to slow laggy performance speakers not working videos not working correctly it can’t tell the processor to use which cores the slower cores or faster cores so the processor just picks the chips is suppose to choose which is best for what ur doing so expect a recall unless they just try to do a software trick to make it works sorta right sorry for the bad news
Surprised there's little commentary on this one. Too far fetched to be plausible?

Yeah, sometimes I also don’ t have these problems, and sometimes I have.
So wouldn’ t be so sure if I were you. It is not always there, sometimes it runs quite smooth for an extended period.

Maybe, I guess. If I run across it, I'll report back. So far so good since launch day.

Yeah, forgetting an entire power management chip? Seems unlikely, without such a chip, my iPhone X’s max would have a lot more problems.
But if there would be a recall? Great, give me a fixed one.

Make sure auto brightness is enabled.

Completely missing a chip? I find that highly far fetched. Now perhaps the wrong version of a chip, sure but an entire chip, there would seemily be some sort of major malfunction not just poor performance.

I've already exchanged my device once and both have this problem, so it seems like a decent number of devices are affected. You would think a Youtuber could play a video with an X and XS side by side and capture it for a wider audience. At least some Apple Engineers are investigating based on our feedback reports.

Mine hasn't malfunctioned on the new beta, yet...
It will trust me seems smtg is wrong because not every one is having these issues. I also have the top speakers stops working bug at random. have to restart to get it to work again the top speaker will work on calls but not playing music or watching video who else has this problem too? if u think about it a power management chip only tells the computer what processors to use. as well as what cores to use the slower power efficient cores or the more faster cores. reason we are having issues is to save battery the phone is picking the slower cores therefore can’t run all the drivers and software nessasary for video to play correctly. or sound drivers to play correctly. I fire up a game and see a lot of frame drops even a 6 plus runs better! so imo the pmc is not that far fetched ima bout to get another unit. someone has same issue and they broke back glass already so there claiming it as a lost device and gonna get A new one. and im gonna tear it down to see if it’s there or not I know it came from same location as me on launch day Foxconn every one if u got your phone shipped to you was it from the ZhengZhou, China location? If so that’s Foxconn. and I’m about to see if this rumor is true or not. Because I went to apple store about my speaker problem and watching video problems. the genius said and I have it on recording oh I can show u how to fix that just turn off auto brightness?? the phones have a issue adjusting to backlight and there is nothing wrong with the phone just don’t use auto brightness! I was like so I have to not use a feature of a phone to make another work. and I was like well what about the speaker issue? she said we can send ur phone in to have the display replaced. I was like I’m not gonna have a 2 week old phone serviced and repaired!!! don’t that degrade the waterproofing feature. she said yes but the water proofing is only for just in case like if u accidentally dropped it in water she said but u have apple care so if it did get damaged u can just pay 99 and we would swap it out. I’m like there is no way I’m gonna get a 2 week old phone serviced!! I want a replacement her words and I “quote” the replacements we have right now all have the same issues as yours and until we get some that don’t we don’t wanna jsut swap it out right now!!!!!!! are u kidding me right now people if your still in 14 days u best return and run away! I’ve been a diehard hard core apple person since 2007 I’ve had every iPhone every year. except iPhone 5c and the iPhone se cuz I’ve always had the most expensive phone every single year I’m telling you smtg is wrong with these phones. they know it and don’t wanna do a recall. they just want to patch some crap over crap so they don’t lose any money. if it was all software issues there would have been a statement from apple via twitter. like the iPhone 7 Bluetooth issues they released a statement 5 days later saying a software patch is in the works and for users not to worry ect. they have been silent about all these issues yes they released 12.0.1 it fixed nothing but the charging bug. and sometimes it still don’t charge until u wake the device up. all they done was made it soons the device detects a cable it wakes it up and says it’s charging and then goes back to sleep that’s it now even if u plug in headphones the device wakes for a brief second then goes back to sleep the real issues wasn’t fixed it was covered up.

No periods or capital letters? All run-on sentences. Very very hard to read and understand.

Installing beta 4 now. I only had the issue in Netflix while streaming. If i downloaded the video it had zero issues. Also restest youtube but haven't seen a issue on it also.

Ok, but what are your download settings in the Netflix app? Normal or high? And do you have a premium/ultra hd account?

Still see it only streaming video. Downloaded video looks find. Netflix Ultra HD download setting on high.

No issues in Youtube. Streaming or downloaded.

Same results as before i installed the beta.

Only have a few movies on itunes. Don't really use it but from what i have i didn't see a issue.

I can confirm that there is a bad batch of phones that was sent to the USA. It wasn’t 7 million it was 7000 and the chips they used was the wrong power management chips there using older power managment chips from the iPhone X and 8 by accident in the newer phones so there is either gonna have to be a recall or there gonna have to make the power management chip in the newer phones compatible with them via software but imo there should be a recall period this was confirmed by a very reputable source that works at Foxconn quality control. This explains everything all the problems laggy choppy video top speakers won’t work which is a audio routing issue WiFi and cell problems ect. All I know is everyone post last 6 digits of serial number and did I get it sent to u in store and also if it was shipped where did it originate there is a way u can tell if u open the phone

The iPhone Xs and Xs Max was the first phones to use apples own newly designed power management chip. The chances of different company branded chip being able to work from last years X in the Xs line is very slim to none. Also what makes no sense is you saying 7,000 phones shipped with the wrong chip. Less say apple shipped 15 million Xs phones out so far. Use getting 1 of the 7,000 out of 15 million is very slim also. Are you sure you didn't have tons of shots and talk to cardboard cut out of a apple employee?

It also doesn’t make sense that disabling auto brightness fixes the issue. If you have a bad chip the problem would occur regardless of the auto brightness setting. If anything I’d blame an overly sensitive light sensor for the issue (or poorly calibrated software).

Electronics are sensitive. You can’t just mix and match chips (or remove them) and have things work. Not to also mention the soldering points would be completely different between the two.

no it’s a family members friend that works for apple and said he over heard them taking about it not gonna say no names but I’ve msg him my self and it was 70,000 not 7 thousand like I was told I went straight to the person my self and from what I can tell the chips look almost identical but are different and there tryna make it work with software drivers and stuff but there not so sure it’s gonna be able to work because the new processor was built with the new Apple designed pmc.

Ok, from 7000000 to 7000 to 70000.
Sorry but is going everywhere.
I am skeptical about your story...
But one thing seems right , in my iPhone something is definitely wrong with power management .

well time to prove it. You should be able to open up the phone. Find the PMC chip and see if it match up apples number for it or the other brand. If it's the other brand you have good story to take to the media news outlets. If you have a apple chip then you have a open phone but we learn it wrong chips not the problem. O yeah film it and put it on youtube

Does turning off auto brightness fix the issue for most people? I've tried it on two Max phones and it didn't fix video playback at all.

For me :sometimes it does help, sometimes it doesn’ t. But I noticed that downloading a Netflix episode and turn off auto brightness helps a lot.
And that is why I am thinking there is definitely something wrong with powermanagement, it seems that when there are extra tasks the soc is working on, or when there are sudden powerdraws(like autobrightness), there is a slow down.
The fact that this only happens at 24hz content(50,60hz 1080p content is fine and smooth), is perhaps only evident because the iphone is in some kind of low power mode or cpu is throttled down to preserve battery at 1080p24(but in normal mode on 1080p50/60), and can’ t keep up when there is a sudden peek in power and doesn’ t compensate for this powerdraw, causing the slowdowns.

But this doesn’ t have to be just auto brightness kicking in, it could also be caused by other tasks.

Personally i think it's just something software related to the cpu/gpu and the new screen resolution on the max and not being fully supported right.

Could be, but people with regular xs are having these issues too, and that res is the same as the iPhone X from last year, so..
