Hello,

I have been having a frustrating problem lately. I have a mac mini serving as an HTPC and a MBP as a laptop, both have identical specs (2.26 ghz core 2 duo). The MM has 4 GB ram and the MBP has 8. That is the only difference. I recently downloaded an itunes HD rental onto the MM and could not watch it due to the atrocious skipping, choppiness and jitters. The movie had fully downloaded and was not streaming. I found this strange because I had downloaded HD movies before from itunes with no problem. I tried the same movie on my MBP, no problem whatsoever. All of these tests were using a 1080p television (the MM was obviously headless, but the MPB had no problem even dual screening with the 1080p TV and its own screen).

I then tried to download a HD movie trailer from apple.com. Same issue. MM choked and the MBP was fine. Both systems are up to date and I have run permissions and disk check. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Thank you very much in advance!

You likely have a software issue. Try different software for playing the video.

Do you have other stuff running in the background taking resources? Try closing as many other processes as you can and make sure the software is up to date on the mini. I don't have any issues playing the same videos on my mini as my same spec'd macbook. How much free space do you have on the mini?
