It seems as though I cant watch an entire 40 minute HD TV show on my MacAir without it becoming choppy. Is it a lemon? Anyone else experience this? What can I do? Thanks!

If it's a rev A, that is PAR for the course. You should buy Cool Book and hope for the best.

If it's a rev B MBA, take it back and get a new one. My rev B MBA is the fastest Mac I have ever owned. Video playback, HD even, is amazing and capable on native display and external display.

Godspeed.

Whaat? Mine usually can't handle streaming well enough and 1080p is impossible after 3 seconds cause it undervolts down to 700mhz... It's a 1,86 revb

I have a 1.6 Rev b, and was just wondered how far this under-vaulting goes!
700 mgz? I thought it would only under-vault when it was idle, not doing much, like safari or word.
Not while it was trying to play HD content! I thought my slow HDD, or 1.6 might have been the bottle neck, for the dropped frames! Choppy video, Seems NOT.

I have a 1.86/120gb rev B, and I have happily been watching blu ray's on it almost every day now, some blu ray's did give me some issues, but I have updated my video drivers to 18x.xx and it works pretty good now, I have also watched Hd trailers from apple's site on mac, and they run pretty good too, minor overheating which doesn't affect performance.

I have also observed, that with the drivers on the leopard disc for nvidia, the processor would suddenly show 100% usage, and the temps would go as high as 75-80C, since I haven't found a fan controller utility I have to stop everything and let it cool, after updating the video drivers this hasn't happened yet.

Ok, I'm at day 32 with my Rev B MBA and I've had issues with HD video being slow/stuttering etc... Call me an idiot (I have myself all nite lol) but since reading about the airport extreme now using dual bands I thought mmm I wonder how much faster it would be for streaming to my MBA. HOLY COW... It's like running on a different computer since switching my extreme to 5ghz.

I run Hulu, Netflix and other video feeds alot, slingbox as well. While I can buffer Hulu some I decided to watch/let run Hulu legend of the seeker in HD, not one hicup... temp around 70C and smooth playback. I don't know exactly how this effects playback once it's loaded to the machine but wow. I am still testing out varoius video's I've tried in the past but this is crazy how well it is doing with no other change but moving to the 5ghz band on the APX.

I guess my issues are network/wifi related vs this MBA. Here I had thoughts of selling it thinking it couldn't handle the video...

Streaming could be Internet and have NOTHING to do with your MBA...

Just curious... do you have Solid State Drive or a Hard Disk Drive?

1.86/SSD..

I'm honestly blown away how well this is running now. I guess my bottleneck was my wifi. Very happy now! Although I have to say, I didn't expect it to run cooler? but is is by a noticable difference. Youtube HD would push it to 80 to 83C over the course of a few video's, say 10m or so.. I'm now sitting 68 to 75C as I just finished a 9m HD video on Youtube. Strange... but I like it :)

Hello. Are you talking about drivers for Bootcamp or are there better OSX drivers available somewhere?

Thanks,

John

Gotcha.

Off topic, what sort of cooling do you use on your QX9650 to get it to 4.0GHz?

They're blowing them out at the local Microcenter for $600 and I'm not ready to buy a whole new i7 setup this year.

Thanks,

John

Dont laugh, I have a retail extreme, and I had a Tuniq Tower 120, which I used before, but after a mobo rma, I lost the 775 bracket, after that I have been using the stock heatsink, which seems to be doing just as fine. I do think though I have a pretty decent chip, uses 1.40v for 4ghz :) , not really a big deal with the newest rev.'s though! And it performs similar to a i7 clock by clock in games, and slightly slower otherwise, @ 4ghz its faster then the fastest sold 965 in everything. Thats a pretty good deal for the procy, and will easily last u couple years.

No, sir... I will indeed laugh... because the Tuniq Tower is the cooler I'm using now! I had to take a dremel tool to the bracket so it'd fit on my Rampage Formular mb. That thing is just so freakin' huge! I think I might just have to scrape my pennies together and get me one of those chips this weekend. Right now I'm just using an E8500, which I can only seem to clock with stability up to 3.77.

Thanks,

John

haha, the tuniq is pretty huge, it hardly fits in my antec, e8500 with some cooling should do ~4.2 on air, are you using manual settings or auto? try everything manual.
