Hello forum!

I was arguing a lot whether to buy a Dell. or not.

I've got Mac experience since my first Mac was an iMac G3 indigo 500 back in 2002.

Since then I had an iBook G3 14-inch (1st gen.), an iMac G4 17-inch, an eMac (don't ask) and a PowerBook G4 12-inch (also 1st gen.).

I started with Mac OS X 10.1, then got 10.2, 10.3 and the latest version, 10.4, on a Mac mini combo.

After four years and ending up with a Mac mini 1,25, I conclused that OS X is not really ready (at least for me), although I love Macs and I love OS X deeply.

Then I sold the mini on eBay and ordered a Dell Dimension desktop with Display. Like a sign, my credit card wasn't charged right due to a different shipping adress which couldn't be handled properly.

Then I went into myself and took a deep breath, looked for used Macs on eBay. I thought back and forth, and finally bought a used Quicksilver (2002) 933 with 768 megs of RAM, a 60 gig HD and a superdrive.

This was the system I always wanted to have in 2002 but couldn't afford.

Today I went to a local warehouse and bought a Samsung 19-inch TFT (8 ms) in addition to the PowerMac.

It's becoming like the realisation of a dream.

Can somebody understand my inner fight and just let me know how the thinks about it.

Was it a bad or a good idea?

Please let me know - it's really been a mental fight good against evil.

Thanks for your time.

Okay.

So, you went from a mini to an old Power Mac... Kudos to you.

Just out of interest, how is Tiger not quite ready for you? I'm not trying to flame, I'm just wondering. :)

Oh, and you did the right thing sticking to Macs.

Wait, you sold the mini for a QS??

Did you need the expandability of the QS? cause a mini is a much "better" computer otherwise. Just get the RAM up to 1GB and it's a great little machine.

And what do you mean by 10.4 not being "ready"? What is it you want it to do? Make your bed? Fix your dinner? There's really not much that it can't do you know...

EDIT - geeze MJ, quick and the dead I guess...

You have used 4 Macs since OS 10.1, but decided at 10.4 that OS X "is not really ready (at least for me)."

..What does OS X NOT have right now that you need? iNuke..atomic bomb building software? A gene sequencing widget? What?!

Then you buy a Dell Dimension desktop, with Windows, (I'm still trying to figure out what Windows had that you couldn't get from OS X Tiger). ..Then go BACK to an older and even MORE obsolete G4-based Mac than the previous Mini.

... [scratches head]

Can you ship me some of that stuff you've been smoking? It's must be absolutely AMAZING!!

This is all very strange indeed.

I mean, the Mac Mini was a fine system it sounds like, for your needs (well, what are you needs)? The mini has a faster processor than the Quicksilver you ordered. How much did you pay for the QS?

Otherwise, the Mini or QS is an ok choice over a Dimension, unless you needed the Windows machine for something in particular.

Mac OS is great, so I don't know why you've had any questions about it. Sounds like you should have probably kept your Mini, unless you wanted to easily upgrade your machine, in which case the QS isn't that much slower. Plus, how much memory did you have in the mini? If you only had 256 or 512, then you will enjoy the increased memory in the QS.

I hope you didn't lose any money in all these transactions. Enjoy your quicksilver though. :)
