Chrome brower version 52.0.2743.82 (64-bit).

Does anyone notice that the font in the browser tabs seem larger and/or easier to read? Even the bookmark bar seems different. Did Google change this?

Yeap it has a new design/look on the Mac, looks much nicer IMO.

Thanks. I thought I was going crazy (well, more than usual) or had installed some malware

It's much easier to read the fonts, and is more visually appealing with this version. I like it too!
