what's a better laptop replacement? I find dex a little confusing and hard to use and alot of programs don't run well in it.

I use both and would take ChromeOS for the full desktop browser over DeX. I hate mobile browsers with a passion. Today, I had to bid on something on Ebay while at lunch and mobile browser in desktop mode let me down again. Only thing is there are usually better spec'd (mid vs low end CPU, 256GB NVMe vs 64GB eMMC, 8GB vs 4GB RAM, etc.) and deals on Windows laptops which can also multi-boot other OS'.

Windows > ChromeOS > DeX

Windows > ChromeOS > DeX
I agree with your observations and conclusions. (but I have never had a problem using the Android eBay app which I find better than using a mobile browser in desktop mode...especially when sniping)

From a purely online experience, ChromeOS > DeX... it's not even close. But... from a cohesive user experience, DeX wins. Google has not done a good job in making the CrOS and Android sides of chromebooks feel like a single system.
