Not sure what is going on, but I have 2 tabs open (one with personal gmail and other with work outlook) and CPU utilization is way up and fans are going full speed. I'll reboot and see if it helps. Restarting chrome did nothing.

I had not seen this. However, my issue is new. It just started happened in the last 3 days. Today I had only 2 tabs --- gmail and yahoo finance -- and I had the machine heating up and fan going at full speed. Actually, I have about 14 tabs open now and it sounds like my laptop fan is spinning like a plane's engines ready for takeoff.Have you seen this thread?
I will consider Chrome a malware from now on..
When I first got M1 MBA the battery life is spectacular, and it ran really cool. I never shut down my laptop just close the lid when call it a night. The first couple of nights the battery was down only 2-3% when lid was closed. Then I installed Chrome.. Gradually my MBA ran hotter. Battery...forums.macrumors.com
