I'm wanting to get into architectural visualizations and i'm interested in Cinema 4D architect edition. Quite impressed with the results it gives. My only experience with 3d apps was using Infini-D many years ago.

So my question is, how steep is the learning curve for cinema 4d? and any other opinions on the above package I mentioned.

I too am interested in this.. I have come from a 3D Studio max background, and hate switching back and forth between mac/windows to get some work done.

Cinema 4D seems like a nice alternative...

I'm no means an expert but i have messed with C4D. Imo, it is definitely one of the more user-friendly packages. If you are not so heavily relying on animation, then you should also check out Modo. Better modeling tools compared to C4D and great renderer (which C4D is good as well). I would lean on Modo if you don't need the extra features.

Modo looks interesting aswell. Certainly a lot cheaper.

it's a tough choice trying to pick one of these apps.

Looks good adam.

How long would it take for a novice to get up to speed with cinema 4d?

Heh ... I used to love Infini-D. Well, up to 3.5, anyway, ISTR they kind of lost it with v4.

Anyway, I'm old-timer when it comes to 3D apps as well, and I'm reaching the point where I can extract useable results from Cinema 4D despite having very limited time to learn and experiment with it.

The one thing I can't recommend enough is, is to buy this book.

It's thorough, methodical, logical, but also manages to make many of the exercises fun to work through as well. It won't turn you into an expert, but it will give you a really solid understanding of how C4D works.

Cheers!

Jim
