I was looking at the "Build Now" link for the Mac Pro.
It still lists Apple Cinema Displays as an option.

I guess it is still referring to the non-TB version, since MP doesn't have TB.

Thoughts?

That's right.

But the Cinema Display now uses Thunder Bolt. They announced a hardware bump.

So it's a little strange that they would announce a new version of a product, but continue to sell the old one.

Doesn't apple usually drop old versions as soon as a new one is announced?

The new one doesn't ship for a couple of months. It really depends upon how much inventory Apple has. If they have got 10's of thousands in "the channel" (in warehouses and stored at retail locations ) and they sell thousands per month it may take them that long to burn off the inventory.

You can't get to it as a standalone item now so it is only the BTO burn off rate now.

Only if they had dried up the inventory.

It would not be surprising if Apple got a small dose of the Osborne effect with the older models since lots of folks who bought the new TB equipped machines strongly suspected that Apple would drop a TB Display in the future. So they passed on buying the "older" model and sat on their cash.
Therefore leaving Apple with an inventory burn off problem.

At this point new Mac Pro users are part of the few who are going to help them burn that off.

Actually, the logic has nothing to do with supply ... the Mac Pro as of now is NOT compatible with the TB display, so why would Apple allow you to bundle a non-compatible display when buying the Mac Pro?

Apple will continue to sell the LED Cinema display for quite awhile since basically all pre 2011 machines can only use the non TB display.
