Hello everyone, my cell phone plan is a family plan through Cingular that also has my mom and dad. Anyways, my phone number is listed as the main one on the account, and my phone is eligible for an upgrade. However, my parent's phones are not eligible until 12/31/2006. Here is where my questions start...

1. If I upgrade my phone, we have to renew our 2-year contract. So by upgrading my phone and renewing the contract, will be parents still have the SAME eligibility date to upgrade? If so, I'm assuming we would have to renew the contract again for another to years, putting the length until 12/31/2008. How exactly does that work?

2. I am looking at getting the SLVR L7 (with itunes, of course :D ) for $100. The only thing is that it is a REFURB, the new ones are $200 which is out of my price range. Has anyone ever dealt with a Cingular refurb? Do they have a warranty with them, is that shiny SLVR gonna have some big scratches on it upon arrival? I don't know, but if there refurbs are like Apple's, then I have nothing to worry about.

If anyone could help me out here or if you have any other good Cingular phone suggestions, that'd be great!

PS. NO RAZR, everyone has one these days, I don't like to be a copier....but they are nice

Wait..
Don't you have an "upgrade"? Shouldn't they offer a free or discounted phone? If not, what is the point of having this "upgrade" service?

I too have Cingular, and I am anxiously awaiting Feb. 07 so I can upgrade this damn Razr. I was one of the first to buy the phone (when it was still pulling over $250) and now I am enraged the phone is not only only $50-75 but that everyone and their mom has one.

Yes, those are the discounted prices. It is listing the original SLVR at $300, with a $100 off and the refurb one is listed at $200 with $100 off. There are plenty of free or cheap phones available, but I am not sure if I like them. I definitely like the SLVR though.

Geez, that is a bit steep it seems for a SLVR.
I can't help with the refurbished conditions.

If you want to shell out a bit more, I believe the "Canary" or KRZR (Razr II) is coming out this fall. Engadget leaked Cingulars upcoming releases a few days ago.

To answer your first question, upgrading your line will in no way affect any other lines on the account. Each has their own contract and eligibility should not be changed for them. As an aside, in certain instances changing your rate plan can affect eligibility.
