maybe its just me or that every time that i am in a cingular store asking about the iPhone they either try to convince me not to buy it or give me wrong information. for example one guy tried to tell me that it was really expensive and i shouldnt get it, and another guy tried telling me that it wasnt coming out untill the end of august and it would be 700 dollars for an 8gig. no offense to the cingular employees that do know what they are talking about but it really seems like sales reps are clueless and are just trying to talk you out of buying it?

I've asked once at the local AT&T store, and they seemed very knowledgeable. They encouraged me to sign up, as they have a hand written list to get the phone of about 100 already  That is why I am getting it through the Apple store.

Of course, each employee will know a different amount on it, but the one I talked to knew what he was saying.

The AT&T store by my office also has a handwritten list - it's at about 200 now. I'll be getting mine trough an Apple Store - there's about 4 stores near where I live now.

It's the anti-Apple mindset that consumes any retail outlet that carries an Apple item as a boutique product. I get this narrow minded vitriolic diatribe at Best Buy and CompUSA as well...

Elsewhere on this forum, you have by now read that AT&T has stated in no uncertain terms that there will be no waiting lists. iPhones will be sold on a first come, first served basis. All AT&T sales reps have been given this notice.

Today I went to a Cingular store regarding an issue completely unrelated to the iPhone, and the sales rep incidentally told me "June 15th is our official release date for the iPhone". She also speculated that plans for the iPhone might be treated special, but she didn't have any information on how plans for the iPhone or activating the iPhone will work.

For what it's worth..

I was told the same thing a few days ago.
