this icon just popped up in the top right corner for the first time today... anyone have an idea of what it is? thanks

GPRS: Shows that your carrier’s GPRS network is available, and iPhone can connect to the Internet over GPRS.

I thought that was what it was going to be too, but that's definitely not GPRS... No idea what that is...

Are you running some kind of status notifying app?
 
It's definitely not GPRS, since there is a 3G icon next to your carrier logo.
Are you running a status note app or something?

yeah i think i figured it out... i downloaded a bunch of things today too... pysl b2 is the corporate behind the circle. its the status icon letting me know that call filtering is active. quite nice when you have old friends you dont want to talk to. thanks for the help.
