Cisco VPN Client 4.0.3.E and OS 10.3.3 Panther

First I'd like to say 'Howdy.' I've visited MacRumors quite a bit and this is my first post here on the forums...

I have a 12" 800Mhz iBook running OS 10.3.3 with an Airport Card. I'm unsuccessful when trying to connect to my University's network with Cisco VPN Client 4.0.3.E , and I'm having a hard time finding a solution. One work around, found here ,for VPN Client 4.0.2.C and OS10.3 was opening terminal and going to /private/etc/CiscoSystemsVPNClient/Profiles.
From there you would open yourprofile.pcf and add "USELegacyIKEPort=0".

I've tried Panther's VPN client, no luck. Can't download the previous VPN client version unless I sell my soul to Cisco. Searched a few forums...

One solution I have thought of is Dual Booting Jaguar/Panther and installing the VPN Client on the Jag partition, but I'd like to keep that as a final resort.

talk your sys admin at your university, they probably have all the old clients on a dvd or cd someone stashed in someone's desk. i'd fire off an email directly to the vpn admin. the help desk ppl won't probably be able to help with this problem.

i have a powerbook with panther and i'm using the Cisco VPN client as well...i did a clean install of panther between semesters and when i came back i had issues with my vpn client, i did the panther terminal fix..and then, in my stupidity, found out i was using the wrong profile to connect...best bet is to have a chat with some people at its, you're bound to find at least one mac geek...

EDIT:::: oops, i just realized that i'm using version 4.0.2 C...i guess you can download it from uc-boulder's site..housingvpn.colorado.edu...otherwise you can instant message me and i'll be happy to share it...just make sure you have whatever profiles you need

What's the issue with 4.0.3E?

As for the "workaround" for 4.0.2C, that sounds more like a configuration difference between the .pcf file and the VPN server you are trying to connect to.

What's the issue with 4.0.3E?

Whenever I try to connect it tells me that the gateway server cannot be found. A second try yields a second error message, which I can't remember

I forgot to mention that my University's comp support documentation here specifically says that 4.0.3.E is not compatable with Panther. I could dual boot Jaguar, but that's poop.

EDIT:: Thanks for the link, Varmint. I'm going to try the different versions of Cisco's VPN client as soon as I get to school...will post update

I don't know

I just know that the updates come in every once in a while, I'm not even sure which version I have on my ibook, which I'm not at presently. And the VPN I have is the one that was out when I got panther last semester.

Don't you hate it when nobody's to blame except for your IT department's ENGLISH TEACHERS and the lame communication skills they pass on!!! #@$@$%@%@

So nothing is wrong with Cisco VPN or Panther, just the documentation on the website. I finally talked to my University's IT and they told me the name and login password for VPN was completely different from what they had posted in the Documentation. Anyway...there's my rant and thank you very much for the help.

Remind me to never flame IT personel....

Now my battery is dead...what a week.

I've tried reseting the PMU and a full charge and discharge; after which the computer shuts down after 5 minutes. Guess I'll be visiting the Houston Apple Store this weekend.
