cisco VPN on iPhone?

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before - I thought it would have, but I was unable to find it.
Does anyone have any experience using the VPN on the iPhone? Does it work with a cisco vpn??

I got this email response from my campus OIT department

The VPN that the iPhone uses does not support the protocol for the Cisco setup we have on campus.

We understand that the pure IPSEC needed to attach correctly will be in a later update for the phone. However at this time you are stuck using the Perfigo web authentication through Safari on the phone.

I tried to VPN into our company network, but it didn't work. We use a Cisco VPN client on our laptops and Cisco hardware on the server, so I'm not sure if something is missing or not.
