My wife has to log in to Medical school through a VPN account. This is easy to do, and works fine, however, we have a problem. When she does this, she can only get on that website. All the rest of the internet is down when the VPN is on. Any idea why this is? Any fixes for it??

Thanks.

I am running panther with a PB 12" rev. A. Same problem on Jag-wire.

I use cisco VPN. What's happening (i believe) is you're accessing the internet through the medical school, instead of through your ISP. if they have restrictions on internet access, you won't be able to use it. they may have such restrictions for vpn use, so you can't get to the internet (mine just restricts pop-email account access, so I can't get that).

IIRC, there's a setting on the VPN client that may allow you to set up a tunnel only for that site, leaving internet access through your ISP. You'll have to check the manual, which you can find on Cisco's site.

The same thing happens when I access another network through VPN. I assumed it was a security thing and by design. I get around it by having my desktop and my powerbook access the internet through an airport extreme base station. If one is connected to a network via vpn I can use the other to access the internet and my email through my own ISP. Sorry, that's not much help unless you have two computers.
