As most are probably aware, Costco is switching from AmEx to Citibank Visa this year. I just received a mailing with the terms of the Costco Citibank Visa rebate program, and it's an improvement (better for the customer) compared to AmEx's Costco rebate program.

However, I have been VERY pleased with AmEx's instant notifications through Apple Pay for ALL purchases on my AmEx (regardless if I used Apple Pay). So, I am a little concerned about how Citibank will compare.

I called the 866 number contained in the mailing and I was assured by the rep that Citibank's Apple Pay notifications will be similar to AmEx. He told me there was an internal company memo on this dated March 25. I said he was confident I would be pleased with Citibank's support of Apple Pay.

So, my question for all of you with Citibank credit card set up in Apple Pay... Have you started receiving regular and fast notifications of purchases made on your Citibank card? (You do have to turn this feature on within the credit card's setting in Apple Wallet.)

I was given the impression the change in notification support was effective March 25.

I can't speak to the Apple Pay specific alerts, but I can say that the push notifications from their app about purchases and such are very prompt.

Thank you. I am hoping to avoid installing Citibank's app. But, it's nice to know that can be an alternative plan if the Apple Pay notifications aren't arriving promptly.

Out of curiosity, why don't you want to install their app?

Because I trust Apple a lot more than I trust big banks. If I could avoid doing business with ANY big banks, that would be my preference. But my credit union isn't signing a deal with Costco, so it is what it is.

Respect your opinion, but in terms of installing an app, probably less of an issue.

Do I understand this to mean you have a Visa from your credit union you'd like to use at Costco after June 19?

If so - you can indeed use any Visa credit card at Costco starting June 20. There just won't be any perks such as offered by the Citibank card, that's all.
