OK, so I finally ha enough free time the other day to pull the trigger on the Civ V Gods and Kings update. I had Civ V through the App Store already. Now it crashes within 15 minutes of starting the game. I've tried adjusting the settings and everything else to no avail. If you read the reviews in the Store, I guess this is a pretty common issue since the last patch. It is, as it stands, unplayable.

Is there any reason to believe that this problem is confined to the App Store version, and if I got it on Steam I'd be OK. Or will each provider have the same issues?

I have Civ V - fully expanded up to Gods and Kings - from Steam running 100% ok on my 13'' mid 2012 MBP. I can play for countless hours w/o problems.

My guess is either there is a problem with your install or with your Mac. Try doing some maintenance on your Mac - freeing up disk space, making sure your OS is fully updated, etc.

If that doesn't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the game - if you can, install the basic game alone, test it, then add 1 DLC at a time and repeat the test, just to see if one of those is the source of your problem.

You can also contact 2kGames for support. I also had some problems with my PC version of this game and they helped me to sort it out.

I don't think the problem is on my machine. I'm pretty diligent about keeping it up to snuff. But more to the point, almost every review in the App Store since the last patch deals with crashing - so I think the problem is not uncommon.

Glad to hear that the Steam version seems to run OK. Maybe I'll try it there.
