I'm running the latest version (3.13) of Civilization IV Beyond The Sword in Windows XP SP3, on my 20" iMac. I've installed the Boot Camp drivers that came with Leopard.

Unfortunately, though I'm able to set the Windows desktop to the full 1680x1050 resolution if I turn off the restricted resolutions option, I can't choose a resolution higher than 1400x1050 in the game. This works well enough except that everything is stretched horizontally, which is quite irritating. I know the game is supposed to work at this resolution, but I can't for the life of me get it to work on my iMac.

Has anyone had any luck with this?

I fixed it! I suspect the problem was that I have a second display connected which isn't able to do 1680x1050. I hadn't considered that this might be a problem because this display has never come to life when I run Windows, so I assumed that it was in single display mode by default.

I installed the newer display driver and Control Centre available here. When playing around in the control centre I noticed a setting relating to dual monitors. I changed it from "clone" to "single", and now it works.

On another subject: how is Civ 4 different to Civ 3 in gameplay?

Have you ever played Freeciv.org?

It's much more streamlined but at the same time, the core gameplay aspects remain unchanged.

The combat system still suffers the phalanx beats tanks problem but other than that the game is much easier to play and in my opinion is the best civilization ever.

Though I do miss all the little details of Civ2 like the advisors, the throne room and of course the real-life movies of the actual wonders.
