Hello, I have a 2015 macbook pro, pre USB-c model. I want to connect it to an external monitor via hdmi and use in clamshell mode, but my usb mouse and keyboard are plugged into my monitor as the monitor has usb ports. Is there a way of using the keyboard and mouse that way, and save me having to remove from back of monitor and plug into MBP before each use? Thanks

Does your monitor have an upstream usb port? It should do, if it has downstream ports.

You would then need to connect your MBP to the monitor with two cables: the HDMI cable for video and audio and the usb cable. The monitor should then behave as a usb hub and link your keyboard and mouse to the MBP.
