Clamshell vs open: Performance and/or heat difference?

Hi, i am wondering if some of you who have their M1 MBP or MBA hooked up to a monitor noticed any difference between using it open vs in clamshell mode. I would suspect that the machine gets a bit warmer when having to operate two screens but on the other hand, heat should radiate better in an open position. Does that even make a noticeable difference? Please also let me know if you've experienced a difference in performance.

Not sure about the M1 thermals but any notebook should dissipate heat better when open.

No difference in heat or performance.

M1 Air. No difference in performance. The machine rarely gets warm to begin with, and when it does, it's mainly the bottom.
