Will let me play movies on my new MBA on an HDMI-enabled TV? Is HDMI the best quality possible? The reason I chose this was because the port adapter listed has audio and video together!

Yes they will work wonderfully! I bought the exact same DisplayPort adapter the other day and it arrived the next day. I'm still waiting for my MacBook Air but I tried it with my MacBook Pro and it works perfectly, you will be very pleased with it indeed.
